The traditional art

Gi Jiu-Jitsu

Grips, patience and method in the traditional uniform. Fundamentals classes are built for complete beginners.

Gi Jiu-Jitsu class at Knots & Collar, Defence Colony, New Delhi

Gi jiu-jitsu is the traditional form of the art — trained in the cotton uniform, or gi, whose collar, sleeves and lapels become part of the game. The extra grips slow everything down, which is exactly why it teaches so well: you have time to think, to feel a position, and to understand why a technique works before you ever rely on speed.

Our fundamentals classes are built for complete beginners. You start with the positions that matter most — how to stay safe underneath someone, how to escape, how to hold a position of your own — and you drill them against real, controlled resistance from the first week. No prior experience, no flexibility and no fitness base required.

Gi runs seven days a week, morning and evening, with weekend Essentials classes for newer students. Most people who train gi end up training no-gi too — but the gi is where the detail lives.
