Professor Binish Sukhija

These are photographs of Professor Binish Sukhija — a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt in India, of the De La Riva lineage, and the founder and head coach at Knots & Collar in Defence Colony, New Delhi. He teaches almost every class himself, in the gi and in no-gi, for adults and for children, and these pictures are simply him at work: showing a grip, correcting an angle, walking a beginner through a first movement, rolling with a student at the end of a session. A verified black-belt lineage matters because it is checkable — you can trace where the rank came from — and it means the person teaching you has spent well over a decade on the mat under coaches who did the same. That is the standard the whole studio is built on. What he asks of the room is the same thing you will see in the photographs: partners who look after one another so that everyone can come back and train tomorrow.
