Submissions — No-Gi

A closer look at submissions in no-gi at Knots & Collar, Defence Colony, New Delhi, India. A submission is how a round of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ends: a controlled joint-lock or choke that a partner acknowledges with a tap, and then everyone resets safely. Without the gi there is nothing to grip, so no-gi finishes lean on body position, head-and-arm control and timing, and they connect naturally to wrestling and the grappling seen in mixed martial arts. Learning them properly starts with control — you hold the position before you hunt for the finish. These photographs come from ordinary supervised classes, taught under a verified De La Riva black-belt lineage by Professor Binish Sukhija, in a room run on kindness over toughness: everything is trained with care so partners look after one another. Your first class is free; come and train it in Defence Colony.
