Women in Jiu-Jitsu
These are photographs of women training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Knots & Collar in Defence Colony, New Delhi, India. Women train here every day, in mixed classes and alongside one another, from complete beginners to experienced grapplers. Jiu-Jitsu is built on leverage, timing and technique rather than size or strength, which is precisely why it suits everybody — and why it is such a practical, confidence-building skill for a woman to learn. In these sessions you will see drilling, problem-solving and supervised rolling, taught patiently and in a calm, welcoming room. Every class is led under a verified De La Riva black-belt lineage by Professor Binish Sukhija, so the coaching is honest and checkable, and the studio is run on a single idea: kindness over toughness, where partners look after each other so everyone can keep training. The photographs are from real classes, not a staged shoot — the women who actually train at the studio, week in and week out, in New Delhi. If you have never stepped on a mat before, this is a good place to start, at your own pace and with no pressure.
